TexStar Chiropractic - Chiropractic Organization logo

The Senate recently passed legislation that would further integrate the essential services provided by doctors of chiropractic into the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In the House of Representatives, there is a companion bill, the Chiropractic Care to All Veterans Act, which mirrors the Senate action and requires the VA to phase-in the chiropractic benefit at all major VA medical facilities over several years. You, too, can help ensure the services provided by doctors of chiropractic are available to the brave men and women who have served our country by simply clicking the link below to urge your representative in Congress to cosponsor this bill.

Help Students Avoid Back-to-School Pain - Austin, TX

Joseph Coupal - Monday, August 15, 2016
Today's students are susceptible to a range of musculoskeletal injuries, such as neck and back pain, as a result of some of the equipment and devices they frequently use: backpacks, smartphones and other mobile devices.

The American Chiropractic Association offers simple injury-prevention tips parents can share with their children to keep them healthy and pain-free:
  • Limit a backpack's weight to no more than 5 to 10 percent of the child's body weight. A heavier backpack will cause your child to bend forward in an attempt to support the weight on his or her back, rather than on the shoulders by using the straps.
  • A backpack should never hang more than four inches below the waistline. A backpack that hangs too low increases the weight on the shoulders, causing your child to lean forward when walking.
  • Urge your child to wear both of the backpack's straps—not to sling it over one shoulder as is common. Lugging the backpack around by one strap can cause the disproportionate shift of weight to one side, leading to neck and muscle spasms as well as low back pain.
  • To avoid strain when texting on a smartphone, encourage children to bring their arms up in front of their eyes so that they don't need to look down to see the screen. If they do look down, they should tuck in their chin rather than dropping the entire head forward.
  • Limit a child's screen time, and make sure he or she takes periodic stretch breaks. Kids should balance sedentary screen time with regular physical activity.

Cold Laser Therapy Provides Patient Relief from Pain, Inflammation, and Other Debilitating Conditions - Austin, TX

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, August 11, 2016

Cold laser therapy in Austin, TX has grown increasingly popular because of the many different benefits it offers to patients undergoing treatment. This non-surgical treatment uses low-level lasers that are typically small so they are easy to handle.

The lasers emit low levels of lights in specific wavelengths. The lights are absorbed by the mitochondria which are the cell’s energy-producing organelles. As a result, there is an increase in cellular energy production which ultimately helps heal the surrounding damaged tissues safely, effectively stimulating them so that their healing process is significantly enhanced. This process then provides the patient relief from pain, inflammation, and other debilitating conditions.

The light energy from low-level laser therapy can enter the damaged cells stimulating inter-cellular activity. Because the light reaches the cellular level, various benefits of cold laser therapy exist. Once the cells recover, the healing process is complete. In addition to faster pain reduction and more timely healing of damaged cells, cold laser therapy also has a strong anti-inflammatory effect, rapid resolution of swelling, and improves local blood circulation.

There are many conditions that respond well to cold laser therapy. These conditions include but are not limited to soft tissue injury, sore muscles, torn ligaments, degenerative joints, nerve pain, musculoskeletal issues, as well as pre- and post-surgical treatment.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Treats Neuro-Musculoskeletal Conditions Safely, Effectively, and Conservatively - Austin, TX

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, August 02, 2016

TexStar Chiropractic - Nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy in Austin, TX

When you are experiencing pain and dysfunction due to neuro-musculoskeletal conditions, consider conservative treatment options such as nonsurgical spinal decompression. This treatment is proven safe and effective to provide pain relief from damaged, herniated, or bulged disc. When a disc is injured, it seldom retracts on its own, especially when subjected to gravity and constant internal pressure. This is reason enough to undergo spinal decompression treatment.

Nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy in Austin, TX will relieve internal pressure on the vital structures of the spine. By non-invasively healing the affected discs, patients can return to their everyday active lifestyle, pain-free. During the treatment, patients will be comfortably positioned on the Disc-Decompression Table for a gentle computer-controlled tractioning procedure. This helps reduce the internal pressure of the disc. In addition to bringing relief, nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy also helps restore the natural process involved in transferring the surrounding fluids, oxygen, and other nutrients into the disc to improve the health of the disc and prevent neck and back pain.
