Doctors of chiropractic use hands-on, drug-free treatment options that help people heal better and more completely than most surgical and pharmaceutical approaches. One of the most common procedures that doctors of chiropractic perform are spine and joint manipulations or adjustments. The purpose of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore joint mobility to joints that have become restricted in their biomechanics or normal motion.
The tissue around a restricted joint segment undergoes physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function. Restoring the normal joint motion allows that tissue to heal and for the body to work as efficiently as possible.
We use a variety of Chiropractic Manipulative Techniques (also known as adjusting techniques) and adapt the techniques to each individual patient’s needs and preferences. Some of these adjustments result in the classic “knuckle popping” sound when they are performed and others involve gentle pressures and movement or impulses with a mechanical tool, which gently moves the vertebrae and joints in a way that is nearly imperceptible and has no associated sounds at all.
