What Is Sciatica?
November 18, 2022Four Worst Habits for Good Cognitive Health
January 5, 2023Hello, and welcome to our chiropractic health care blog authored as a team effort from all four TexStar Chiropractic locations: Texstar Chiropractic in SW Austin, Texstar Chiropractic in Bee Cave, Texstar Chiropractic in Buda, and Texstar Chiropractic in Belterra Neighborhood of Dripping Springs. Today we hope to set aside common misconceptions regarding chiropractic care.
In the healthcare industry, there are always myths floating around about what works and what does not. On a daily basis, we field questions from patients about chiropractic. Here are the top 3 misconceptions about chiropractic we often hear:
Misconception #1: Once I start going to the chiropractor, do I have to keep going forever?
That’s simply not true. It depends on your goals: for some people, the goal is to get out of pain as quickly as possible. In those cases, we partner with you to get you out of pain and back to living your active life as efficiently as possible.
For others, however, we may recommend a longer course of treatment if there is considerable degeneration of the spine, joints, or discs, but this is a case-by-case decision and is not “forever”.
So, if you are suffering with acute or chronic back pain, leg pain, leg numbness or weakness, neck pain, arm pain, and arm numbness or weakness, chiropractic can be your non-surgical and drug-free solution to well being. Contact us at any of our locations, Texstar Chiropractic in SW Austin, Texstar Chiropractic in Bee Cave, Texstar Chiropractic in Buda, and Texstar Chiropractic in Belterra Neighborhood of Dripping Springs. We’re here to help!
Short answer: if you’ve been suffering with a condition for a while, you’ll likely need to invest more time to correct the root cause. We are committed to helping you restore our health to get you out of pain and stay out of pain.
Misconception #2: If I don’t hear the “pop” or “click” was the adjustment successful?
There are a lot of factors that go into hearing that “pop” or click” beyond a success adjustment. Over time, gasses build up in the joints. When a joint is stretched enough to release some of the gasses, we hear a “pop”. Sometimes, we’re able to get the joint mobile enough without reaching the “popping” threshold.
Misconception #3: Why can’t I just adjust my back or my neck on my own?
When you stretch your back or neck, you are conducting a global stretch. You may experience a temporary relief, but the release you may feel is more likely to affect the joints where there is already more mobility (typically above or below the area that needs the adjustment or correction).
When adjusting patients, we use motion palpation to alleviate dysfunction and restore mobility. In a global stretch you may release the dysfunctional joint, but with motion palpation, we’re targeting the exact location.
Dr. Ryan Woods, DC, Clinic Director at TexStar Chiropractic’s Buda location, expands upon these misconceptions in the video below.
